Pond Phases

Below are photos of the various phases a pond may experience as it naturally finds its balance. The time it takes a pond to complete this cycle will vary from site to site, season to season, but the average time is 3-6 weeks. Towards the end of this cycle you will notice a rapid increase in plant growth & water clarity. It is very important to be patient during this natural cycle, replacing the water with new water will only start the process over again. Once the biological process has been established it will continue to cycle, but at a much faster pace. A 20% water change every 3-4 weeks will help sustain the water quality, especially if the pond contains a large fish load.
